Error 126 when trying to use VBAP external

Hi Everyone

I'm having some problems using and possibly installing the following VBAP external: https://github.com/nwolek/vbap/releases

After downloading the .zip file, I extracted its contents and copied the second folder named 'vbap-1.1' to \Documents\Max 8\Library (I also unsuccessfully tried /Packages as well). I then tried to add an object named 'vbap' in a new patcher, and the object appeared as a suggestion whilst typing. Once I'd actually added it, however, the error 'Error 126 loading external vbap' was returned in the console.

Am I doing something wrong?

that is missing vbruntime dll error.

Thanks, but unfortunately I'm still getting that error. I copied the external file and copied it to the 'externals' folder within 'vbap-1.1'. Is there something else I should be doing?

And by the way, I'm using Windows.

I will check it later today on windows and report.

windows 10, max 8.6.2, vbap loads correctly.

Are sure you deleted any older version from max search path ?

Thanks for looking into this!

This is the first time I'm installing it, and the computer is also only a couple of weeks old. Maybe I've done something wrong with the installation?

So far I've just copied that original folder, and also the external you shared. I've also tried both the user library (/Documents\Max 8\Library) and the global library (/Program Data/Max 8/Library).

just make sure to delete all vbap stuff you downloaded as first.

if you can search on your windows system, do so, and trash anything vbap you find.

Then extract external I posted and run Max,

drag vbap into max console to load it, make new patch, type vbap into new object.

it should load

I've just tried exactly that...but am still getting the same error :( Could it be that I need to install something else first? By the way, I am using Windows 11, I don't know if that makes a difference...

Source Audio's icon

It could maybe make a difference, I can't really say.

I have all old vcredistributable packages installed ,

because I use max 4 to max 8 versions on that system.

Maybe that makes the difference.

That seems to have done the job! I downloaded the most recent vcredistributable packages from the Microsoft website, and now VBAP seems to run like a charm.

Thank you!!!

You are welcome !

maybe now also original downloaded externals work ?

They do indeed, though I've replaced the original external with your updated one.
