exponential scaling with [scale] object, classic mode default?

I've been trying to understand how the 5th argument of [scale] works.

As far as I can tell, it does not have an effect unless I include "@classic 0".

In the [scale] inspector "classic exponential scaling mode" is enabled by default, which (I suppose) allows scaling to work with older patches. However, enabled by default, this parameter seems to render exponential scaling inoperable.

Is this a legacy of a transitional phase? I think it would make more sense to have "classic exponential scaling mode" disabled by default - or is there another way I'm supposed to do exponential scaling?

I've tried to figure this out at least once a year -- yet somehow this is the first time I've figured out how to get it work. Technically it is in the help file (under "advanced") but the example does not explain that the classic mode parameter must be disabled.

I think the message "exponential" is supposed to be working in scale's non-classic mode but I'm getting an error message "scale doesn't understand "exponential". Not sure why.
I've been using ease and it's really awesome!

Seems to work for me with no special argument:

Ease is also great! Especially ease~ in my case
