Without knowing what you are specifically trying to do, I would look at bach.wrap, which puts parenthesis arounds elements. You might want to ask on the Bach forum if you haven't already:

Thanks, i used prepend and append and sent midi pitches into a bach score. This produced no results however. There must be a specific format to notate a score as an llll.
