Extremely long program startup

I'm not quite sure why but Max takes over 5 minutes to start on my computer. M4L in ableton same thing. Once loaded it works fine though. I'm running windows 7 64bit, on an intel dx48bt2 mobo with Q9450 processor. Also using the latest max and ableton versions. Any help on resolving the long startup time would greatly be appreciated as I've yet to find any info on the net about it.

Try trashing the Preferences folder... on Windows it's hidden in Application Data, so it can be a bit tough to track down. Seems like usually, these long startups are due to Max working out all the folder search paths.
There'll be a fresh Prefs folder created (with defaults) the next time you launch Max. If by chance there are special Prefs you want to save, look through the folder and copy the relevant files... not sure which ones, in your case.

Hey thanks seejay but that didn't work. I trashed the preferences and still same problem. On windows 7 64bit I deleleted C:UserswrongAppDataRoamingCycling '74
I tried reinstalling after deleting the preferences and still 10-12 minutes to start the program. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have a similar problem... Sometimes patches and apps are terribly slow: minutes. I did not experience that in Leopard, but it happens very often now that i upgraded to SnowLeopard. One more thing: it even crashes more often, and i use Snow Leopard on a brand new computer.
