Fader > Track Volume + Device On/Off
I'm looking to see if a solution exists before I try to build one.
I need to map a physical controller fader to a track's volume but also map it to the device activation button of the instrument rack that's on the track so that when the fader reches zero it shuts off the device and then turns it back on when the fader sends a value of one or greater.
Any suggestions?
can't you just map the fader to both the volume and the device on/off switch? I have some setups like this and seem to remember the device being on when my physical control was at anything except 0
You could observe the track volume and then use that to turn the effect on and off...
Cheers

Hi Stringtapper,
I hope this gets you started.

Easy to do. I assume your using midi mapping.
Map your one midi knob to the track volume AND the device on off button.
Go into midi map mode. Set the range for on off to 0 = off 1 = on. (default is 0-63 off, 64-127 on)
One midi knob can be mapped to a lot of different parameters with different ranges.
Ha! Big "duh" moment here. Somehow in trying to think of some sly Max solution I forgot that Ableton had implemented multiple MIDI assignments.
Thanks to all who answered. There is indeed a native solution.
@Andro yes that works, although if you set the range to off=0 and on=126 then the device will turn back on at the onset of the fader being moved and so you have the whole fader range to adjust the track's volume with the device on, which is how I'm going to do it.
Thanks guys, and sorry for the dumb question!
pro tip: eventually the order is important in this context (one "controller" and one time turning something on and off), so use [t i i].
