File Searching and Metadata

Hi,

Does anyone have know of a way to read/assign metadata to audio files in Max? I basically want to be able to search for audio files by categories (ie: 'blah.aif' has the metadata 'loud, peaceful, bloody' attached to it, so if I search any of those categories, 'blah.aif' will show).

Currently I am using a 'coll' which has the names of the files as indexes, and the categories are the associated data. This works, but requires a lot of leg work (typing in the names and categories for all of my sound files). It would be great if there was an 'inverse info~' object, which searched and reported the names of files according to their properties.

Even if there aren't any ideas, please let me know if you are interested in the 'coll' idea, with a nice 'file categorizing' editor.

Thanks

Julien,
I am on OSX. Do you mean the [shell] external from http://publicbeta.cx/maxx/ ? I do not know anything about Perl, so the commands are obscure to me. Do you know of any documentation that explains these commands? Also, I am still using Max 4.6 and the external you posted did not work...
Thank you for your help,
Chris
