Filtering in max
I don't know may be my question is to dumb, but i can't really understand what types of filters max builtin filters are?
Biquad~ - 2 pole, ok so that means that it have a 12 dB/oct attenuation for every type of filter (LP, HP, BP, Notch)?
And if i want to make 24 dB/Oct i must connect two of biquad?
svf~ - no words about it's attenuation. As i understand it is changing with it's resonance?
Also i found that on some virtual synths are used filters like "Ladder" and "Formant".
And appear one question, is there any info on making this kind of synths in max?
P.S. All this info is need for me because i'm working on one subtractive synth, and just searching filtering capabilities of max.
it is a very complex topic. i am just an enthusiast / hacker, but others really know a lot about it after years of study ;)
yes two biquads = 24 dB and chaining them is fine and how many digital eq's work.
sadly msp does not provide us with any good synth (analogue-like) filters, only digital ones (onepole, biquad, cascade, filterdesign).
there are svf~ (12 dB by the way), lores~ and reson~ for synths, usability depending on your needs / taste (i personally hate svf~) ;-) .
at the moment gen~ is the way to go.
search this site for 'oli larkin' & 'peter mcculloch', and you will find some great filters. there is also the 'moogladder' example in the gen~ examples folder in your distribution (i wrote/ported it), and filters i posted in a zip file in this thread:

i'm sure there are others, too.
good luck.
Lots of thanks for lots of info!
