I need an object that's basically the opposite of [strippath] - i.e., I give it a full file path (users/desktop/samples/drums.wav) and it outputs the last folder path (users/desktop/samples/), so I know where to store any processing and recordings of drums.wav (i.e. drums-2.wav) I produce with my patch.

I notice that this regexp example outputs the same as strippath from the second out let [regexp .+/(.+)] , and so could probably be modified for my purposes but I am very unfamiliar with regexp syntax and thus opting for this cry for help, rather than braving deeper explorations of regexp (also I need to finish this quickly).

Ideally, the solution needs to work in a standalone .app / .exe on Mac and PC....

If anyone can help, much appreciated. Its for this project, which needs a standalone audio editor built in Max MSP to interact with a Haptic device for visually impaired audio engineers.
