Firewire issues with windows xp

I'm trying to get video from a digital video camera (sony hdr-fx1 which is hd, though I'm only running it in dv mode) into jitter and I keep getting errors.

First I did a full install of the latest quicktime (though not the pro version)

WinVDIG does not detect anything. jit.dx.grab can see both my capture card and firewire connected camera, but gives an error when I try to open either--

jit.dx.grab: could not render capture stream
jit.dx.grab: could not build preview graph

At this point I'm willing to buy whatever I need to (besides a mac) to get the system working. Again, all I want to do is take video from a camera connected through firewire. That's it. Any hardware advice is MUCH appreciated.

Thanks,
Randy

Try to get the stream on some other app (premier...)just to check the connection. It can be something wrong with the cable or ...
(hint) restart the machine with cam hook on the computer ...

try some free dv capture program to see if you see the stream/
windv.mourek.cz - like winDV

if you see it there it should basicly be usable in jit.dx.grab on
windows . winvdig its dead
