Forbidden Planet example, Max vs. RNBO

Hello,

If you compare the 'Forbidden Planet' example in Max (Menu: help>examples>fft-fun>forbidden-planet) with its RNBO corollate: https://rnbo.cycling74.com/learn/using-the-fft

You can hear that they sound quite different.

This difference becomes extremely pronounced if you plug a sample into each patch (I used 'Cherokee').

The Max version sounds as expected (a narrow bandpass filter bank), but the RNBO version sounds distorted, non-linear and noisy when the sample is played through it.

Can anyone else reproduce this behaviour?

I just encountered the same issue - replicating the RNBO version of Forbidden Planet illustrated here: https://rnbo.cycling74.com/learn/using-the-fft# but using the fft/ifftstream~ objects instead.

In my case, I'm using environmental field recordings as the input source instead of the generic noise~ object. And yet here is a sonogram of the resulting output.

Would be helpful to get clarification from the RNBO developers as to whether this is a known feature/bug of the RNBO approach.

...and yes, I also tried downloading the example patchers here: https://media.graphassets.com/pVe6Axo0SxetNTfBdVe3 and tried replacing the [noise~] source with an audio file -- yet the audible output was exactly the same as the using the [noise~] source.

Anyone...anyone...?
