formant synthesis

Nano59's icon

hello,

Im trying to recreate this sort of thing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRAiDa7KHz8

and I've created something vaguely similar. Please could someone show me where the problems are within this patch. I know there has to be some kind of vibrato but finding the right depth is proving difficult. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Have a look at
http://cnmat.berkeley.edu/downloads
download the objects and patches, and you'll find a "singing voice" in:

CNMAT-Everything-OSX-MachO/CNMAT_MMJ-Depot/demos/singing/singing-voice~.mxb
also worth having a look at the old "chant"- objects by IRCAM...

hope this helps,

The trick is to tune the bandpass filters in a way that the sound like a vowel:

i also prefer biquad over chant/resonators ... more flexible ... and 3-5 fruqency bands are enough
to create a recognisable vowel.

for generic (non-vowel) formant synthesis [paf~] has alwas been a good basis.
