free plug-ins

greg kellum's icon

Hi all,

I've posted a collection of around thirty plug-ins written in Max/MSP + Pluggo to the web. Some of them were created purely in Max/MSP and represent a fair amount of work on my part while others are merely plugin ports of great MSP objects such as Jean-Michel Couturier's scansynth~ or Luke Dubois' munger~

If you want to check them out, go to:

Best,
Greg

Hello,
Thanks for the post about your plugins I tried them straight away and
they're great :-)

I have always had a problem with pluggo plugins though (used in
protools). When I use any pluggo in protools (LE 7.1) everything seems fine,
but after I quite protools and restart the computer I end up with a
"recovered files" folder in the trash-bin. This folder contains copies of
all the pluggo files I had used in my pt session. I have had this problem
ever since I started using pluggo with protools (then 6.8). Has anyone else
had this problem?

My system: 1.67 Ghz powerbook G4, 1 GB RAM, OS X 10.4.9

I would appreciate any suggestions
Thanks in advance
Peiman

I have a pretty significant error with one of my favorite plugs in your collection. The resonator~ (which I assume is using CNMAT resonatorS~) has 2 problems, first of all it seems to cut off the list of resonant amplitudes after 255, this is a known problem with max and to fix it you need to use sdif buffers or ftm or something, its talked about in the spectral tutorials. But thats not my main problem, for some reason none of the other controlls work, only the loading of the model and the spectral slope. How did you make these models by the way? I coudln't seem to get spear sdifs to load in resonators~ before.

at any rate, thanks and great work. Now when is someone going to do this with FFTEASE!!!!!!!!!! (I may step up to the plate if nobody does soon.)

oh also on intel MPB core 2.16 10.4.9 latest max jitter pluggo

Hi,

I did do that with FFTEase as well, but those objects are unstable... They tend to crash the host. So, I never made my ports publicly available...

The example resonant models that I included came from CNMAT and were created by Ali Momeni. Adreen Freed from CNMAT told me that one can create resonance models with a tool from IRCAM called Resan. It's a part of their Diphone Studio which costs a couple of hundred dollars. Adreen also told me that they were going to create a portal for sharing resonance models and so on, but that has seemed to have happened yet...

I just checked the controls on the resonance plugin, and they work fine for me. Which version of Max are you using and in which host are you using it?

Best,
Greg

Oh... And there was a Windows port of these plugins... I didn't make it. Someone sent it to me, and I've never tested them. I'll see if I can't find them though...

And not a single plugin for windoze. Oh cruel world. :Z

Thanks Greg.
This will save me a ton of work.

Aaaaah, sweet freedom.

Im using max as the host to try them out, and I have latest version 4.6.3 and latest pluggo. Its funny cause the left spectral controlls work but not the simple mix function and the controlls on the right. I was also curious why I got an error that it was truncating the resonant datasets down to 256 parts. I think thats a max thing, If you go through the CNMAT spectral tutorial patch theres some info in there about it... maybe you need to use ftm or something.. oh and I noticed it morphs with the list interpolator when you load a new model, would be amazing if there was the ability to load 2 models and morph between them!

Also I have Resyn and Diphone, which are a pain in the ass to use. I bought a forum subscription a year or so ago and most of the stuff is really hardcore. I mostly use their max objects though which are incredible. Don't get me started about sogs~! most amazing granular ive ever heard

Good work!

Hi,

A couple people have asked about a Windows port of my plug-in collection. Andrij Basarab, aka Basik, ported an early version of the collection. It's not a complete port, but even an incomplete port is better than nothing.

I've never tried them myself. Hopefully, they work without problems...

They can be downloaded at:

May I ask , is all of IRCAM Max is Mac based, or do those objects run in
windows?

Some run on windows as well (I think most of them). I'll check and write
back 2morrow.

yeah some of the best ones are on win as well.. sogs and the jimmies (though I just found those Xjimmies ported from PD which are really great, not all the same as the jimmies but definately great), I cant remember what was win compatible but check there site, they have all the info on there (there's an english version of the site when you hit the little flag at the top)

SUPERVP is kindof disappointing. It sounds good but its not really well suited for realtime.. it has a delay when you bang it till it processes and outputs... and you cant directly control the position in the file like you can with the max and jitter based pvocs that Ive used. The one that I like most is the FFT tutorial pvoc, you have total signal control over exactly what frame your hearing.
