generating 2D vector points from video in real time?

heya jitter gurus,

I was reading over this thread, and found a lot of interesting information:

That was 7 years ago.

Has anyone made progress on an edge-detection, point generating, video-to-vector patch since then? I am highly interested in the concept of ordering / optimizing the points into the most elemental shapes. Any pointers / clues would be appreciated.
