Genetic Algorithms and Neural Networks
Does anyone know of any max patches that use either genetic algorithms or neural networks? I have found work by Ollie Bown but little else. Anything, no matter how simple, would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Danny
We did some really basic stuff in some of our older classes, not sure
how well they work:

I'm really interested in this too. In fact, I was just getting my feet wet with this earlier in the week. Got motivated to post my notes tonight:

Sorry, it's probably overly technical.
I'm not sure this is what you are looking for, because I am using Ruby for these sorts of things. But I really like interfacing all this stuff with Max, lots of interesting possibilities.
I'm also not entirely sure how this Grammatical Evolution stuff ties in with more standard Evolutionary Algorithms (mutation, etc)... still so much learning to do!
In this paper:
http://www.nime.org/2004/NIME04/paper/NIME04_1C05.pdf
Assaf Talmudi explains an approach using genetic algoritms for which he had produced a max object (called beagle) that worked with a max version in macos 9. He might be persuaded into providing a version that works with more contemporary versions.

you're welcome to take a look at the ICMC 07 /LNCS paper on the neural net improv system I developed using Olivier Pasquet's op.fann.mlp (on my website)

I'm really interested in this kind of stuff too.
Bill Vorn's LifeTools is a good starting point.
I don't know when you saw Ollie Bown Max page but everything has change since the last time I saw it.
I'm looking forward to see what everyone come up with Genetic Algorithms and Neural Networks ideas.
This is an exploding field! Here are two my current favorites...
Creative Evolutionary Systems (With CD-ROM) (The Morgan Kaufmann
Series in Artificial Intelligence) by David W. Corne and Peter J.
Bentley
The Art of Artificial Evolution: A Handbook on Evolutionary Art and
Music (Natural Computing Series) (Hardcover by Juan Romero (Editor),
Penousal Machado (Editor)
The DVD with the second one includes my film "Progeny." Both sound
and image where made with evolutionary (genetic) algorithms. You can
hear and see it on my web page below. Also check out "To the Edge,
(solo marimba)" "Bifurcate me, baby" (Disklavier) and "Colony,"
pieces composed using the logistic map (chaos). In "Colony," voice
data for a bank of Proteus 1/2/3 synths was edited algorithmically in
realtime using the crossover and mutation objects in my random number
package.
against apology...
