get & set gain of selected clip in m4l ?
i am searching to find a solution to control the gain of a selected clip in live via a m4l device… no luck. the live object model doesn't list the gain parameter for a clip either.
so it is not possible ? or does someone have a hint.
thanx.

I think you have to get the track where the clip is on and then control the volume of it's mixer_device. This means you have to take care of the desired gain of other clips on the chosen track as well.
thanx xanadu,
but i am actually looking to control the gain of an audio clip not the volume of a track.
so i guess it's not possible ? :(

I have a workaround - its not pretty, but it will do the job. This from my pre- max days.
You can assign a midi CC to the gain (or I believe any other parameter in the clip edit box). Subsequently that cc will control whichever clip is selected (the clip may have to be visible in clip view too for it to work, not sure)
I used to have a few hardware knobs linked to gain, pitch etc, controlling whichever clip was selected. Combined with a select-all-clips allowed me to pitch shift all the clips I'd just laid down - endless fun If you're playing a solo on top of a groove you just created.
It's a real shame m4l doesn't allow you to do it - I'm going to have to set up a max to midi midi to live midi mapping connection too :-(
