Getting no sound.

So I'm getting no sound from MaxMSP.

I was working on a fairly large patch with lots of subpatches and dozens of oscillators, when my sound stopped working - well apart from regular clicks maybe once a second. I checked the sound of the patch by plugging a cycle~ directly into the ezdac~, but nothing. And it certainly wasn't a cpu heavy patch - only about 11-12%.

Max Patch
Copy patch and select New From Clipboard in Max.

Then I made this patch to test the sound:

in a seperate patch window, and it played. But returned to my original patch, tweaked it, still got nothing and went back to the new tester patch. But that wasn't working now either.

After restarting both Max and the whole computer and experimenting with making sounds, I've managed to find that I can sometimes make the sound play once but when it turn of the oscillator i can't turn it back on again. But if I tun off only the audio then I can turn it back on.

It seems to me that there's something strange going on with the oscillators - anyone got any ideas?

someone solve this?

thanks

On Win 7 this seems to be doing what it is supposed to be be doing. You are sending a 1 from the Toggle switch into the [phasor~](overriding the frequency argument) and getting a 1Hz click.

Out of interest, I have not seen anyone use a toggle switch going straight into an oscillator before, why are you doing this? You are probably trying to do something I am unfamiliar with so it would be good to know.

Yeah of course - that toggle isn't supposed to be there - I had it in my mind for some reason that it would it would turn the oscillator on and off. I'm a bit new to the MSP side of things, as up until a few weeks ago I was basically just using Max for sequencing, and sending Midi messages to my DAW.

Thanks Grizzle. :)

Now I just have to deal with another problem I had before this happened, which inolved the sound in my big patch getting stuck somewhere in a maze of subpatches. Maybe I'll be back soon.
