Global audio gain control

In Max 7 there's an audio meter/gain UI in the right hand sidebar. However, I cannot find any programmatic way to control, query, or disable this gain. How do we do this?

This is important to me because I'm working with microphone recordings where electrical values correspond to physical pascals, so I need to maintain exact control over signal levels across the whole chain. I have no idea how to set it to unity gain..

[Bump] Same problem, I'd like to be able to set the audio meter gain to 0db or bypass it. Anyone have any leads?

Right-clicking (control-clicking on Mac) on the Audio Meter in the right toolbar will bring up a popup menu that allows you to remove it from the toolbar.

use that for every possible dac in your patch(es) and connect one single control input.

I am also in need of this function. Not only to control audio engine on off, but adjust the master volume (the UI on the left side) with a slider in the patch. I have too many volumes in my grand patch with an abundance of sub patches.
