GPU question..?
I've just upgraded my GFX card on a MacPro 3.33 Ghz 6 core OSX 10.8.5 from a much older Radeon 5870 card to a much quicker GeForce GTX 680. To be honest the speed difference is negligible if not slightly worse?
Comparison of cards -

I'm using mainly jit.gl.gridshapes, meshes and slabs, am I missing something here?
Any help would be greatly appreciated..
Thx,
BILL
could be lots of things. are you by chance using @poly_mode 1?
Or rendering to matrix / pwindow somewhere...?
Hello Rob,
yes, come to think of it @poly_mode 1 or 2 hits the GPU "VERY" hard, worse on Max 6 then 5?
Why is this?
Thx,
Bill
Did the same upgrade on the exact same machine - in my case, gating all of my jit.pwindow objects made a huge difference in performance. I can verify the GTX 680 is much faster than the 5870.
Hello, I'm very careful about performance, pwindows etc.. I'm comparing the same patch on both GFX cards. I'm not in front of my machine at the moment but I do remember @poly 1 or 2 being a big part of the problem?
Max 6 has never seemed very friendly with @poly 1 or 2???
Thx, Bill
it's an opengl and driver issue.
searching the web for something like "glPolygonMode gl_line nvidia" should reveal some info.
it's possible the lines are rendered in software for some cards in some cases.
your best bet is to use jit.gl.mesh, or a custom wireframe shader.
Rob, thx for the reply.
IS this issue only with Nvidia? I have the opportunity to trade the card for a Radeon HD 7950?
