h264 codec missing
I want to compress my movie files that I record with jit.vcr straight in the write message like this: "write hallo.mov 30. h264 max ". However, when I put h264 as codec, max says it is a bad codec. What is wrong? H363 and h 361 exist but I am not sure if those are good codecs. I need the 264 codec because the files are uploaded to a streaming website and I need small moviefiles
i can reproduce this.
we'll take a look.
anyone has news about this? I would like to finish the project and this is blocking me
h264 is not currently supported as an export option.
we hope to add this for a future update.
thanks.
So what codec should I use for recordings to upload to the internet. The quality should be good but the file size has to be small. And how should I write the codec down in the write message, h263, h.263, H.263, H263, ... because it is very unclear how it should be written.
Record in a supported codec like Photo JPEG. Open recorded file with jit.qt.movie and then export to h.264 (this is supported, only live recording to h.264 via jit.qt.record or jit.vcr is not).

Hi Rob,
any news on this? "h264 is not currently supported as an export option. we hope to add this for a future update."
Kevin
Sorry. Codecs like h264 are still unsupported by jit.qt.record/vcr. Workaround is to record to another codec and then open in jit.qt.movie and export.
Thanx Josh!
Not so important, just wondering if there is any big difference of H264 to the other codecs why it's not so easy to implement?
Temporal compression in such codecs require multiple frames and/or multi-passes for encoding.
thx!
Hello, i would like to ask which is the best codec for jit.vcr cos when i start recording Max start working slow and the video stutters.
How can i solve this?
thanks for ur support!
which version of Max? which OS?
7.0.2 fixed some issues with jit.vcr on the Mac. if using the default of AVF engine, i recommend prores or photo-jpeg codecs.
