Hello guys.
Good evening everyone.
I'm really sorry if this 100 time you will see this kind of theme, but I didn't find any good solution.
So I'm really new into Max /Msp.
I'm really into glitch music of all kinds, but I have no real technical skills to recreate this music(i have a classical musical education).
I love Riuji Ikeda's works, Oval, Jan Jelinek, Pan Sonic, Alva Noto, Dub Russel, but the harder I try to recreate this kind of groove(click'n'cuts etc.) the harder I fail.
I just don't know how to emulate this worklflow in my DAW(Ableton Live) and I'm aware almost all of this artist are used/using software to make their music.
Here is a problem.
I'm really bad at this things.
I do not code, but I'm writinig a music.
And I feel like I'm missing a big opportunity for my future projects.
Stretching, looping, panning all the way - this is what I want to to do, but it's really hard to me to make it with internal Ableton's instruments.
I've found a really cool project made by Dub Russel:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/394188952/2020-the-semi-modular-beat-machine
But the backing is over like 2 years ago(plus I do not have mac, which is the only option there).
So I made a little research and found their plugins like this one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFZ6r2-dn90
But this software is also unavailable as well.
And damn, it feels and sound like it was exactly what I needed!
I messaged them, but I have a feeling that I will not get the answer.
I'm asking for some assistance.
Could you recommend me simillar software?
Or maybe some of you own HSU-003?
in my opinion, the most simple algorithms are often the best ones. and they are easy to make with max, and if you already have a project in mind, that would the perfect starting point to learn max fast.
that type of music you are after consists of two parts, the events, but also a certain sound aesthetics, which can contain types of sounds which are more or less releated to the techniques used. stutter effects, repetitions, delays, samplers with variable starting point, pitch effects...
both are more or less up to you and it should not be worth the effort to copy something.
whereas if you use a plugin like HSU-002, you'll already be years behind and people will hear it in your music
one might argue that this can happen to you with your own tools, too.
then you end up making new tools for the rest of your life.
Guys, thank you for not leaving me without answers!
I do agree: there is no a lot of options to do this stuff on Ableton instruments.
However, from musical perspective, after many hours of listening this kind of music I can make something very close to click'n'cuts even with simple arpeggiator.
However, this is not my goal.
Yeah, there is some plugins, when I started to produce 2 years ago I even tried Sugarbits(lol).
I really fall in love with concept of errors being made by mistake in this music.
I do know Yasunao Tone(and I loved his Solo for wounded CD).
But I do realize we are living in the era of computers.
I mean I'd love to scratch some CD's like Oval did, but I have no idea how to make this work, really.
BTW I was able to watch him performing live.
I'm actually not so impressed with new material compare to older stuff, but who cares, haha?
Thank you for all links you've shared, I'm already digging in!
I definitely not interested to sample this sounds(you call me a nugger, but I find this stupid since I'm not doing, like, a disco track or smth), I do want to learn how to produce them and fall into the abyss of chaos and digital errors.
BTW, I was lucky enough and now I have a HSU-003.
It sounds awesome, but I don't know what I'm hella doing actually, haha.
