help: IR camera for tracking

yammmil's icon

hello all!
I'm trying sensing space, trying to find the best way
Has anyone worked with IR (infrared) cameras, to sense a place?
What do you recommend me?

Thank you very much!

Were you wanting to track people or map a surface?

Obviously Kinect is good for tracking, and you can use it as an IR camera if you cover the structured light emitter. I have used PS3 Eye cameras as very cheap IR cameras, there are tutorials on hacking them on the internet. You have to remove the IR filter lens and put in a piece of floppy disk as an IR pass filter, but its not hard.

thank you guys!! :)
I want to track people.

I have used PS2 Eye camera with a piece of floppy disk as an IR pass filter, and a IR light too (44 IR leds)
It only works at close range: only 1 meter. So, I need a IR system more powerfull. Watching this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgA6L2n476Y) i think that floppy disk is not a so good.

I do not know what I'm doing wrong :(

cheers,
y

My 2 cents: If you are serious about tracking, get a Kinect. It will take care of nearly all of the difficulties you would otherwise spend enormous amounts of time trying to solve.

+1 to lembert-dome. Very difficult to do advanced gesture work w/o dephtsensing.
