Help with guitar --> audio interface --> computer --> amplifier/speakers

Alright, so I'm presenting a Max patch TOMORROW for a project and of course I have it all done (a guitar effect, been testing it on my computer microphone thus far)... and I'm having some real issues getting this whole connection thing right... it seems like this stuff always happens with me and I feel like such a noob!

Anyway, I'm running my guitar into my audio interface, it's a USB interface if that makes a difference, and then I have a cable running from the output of my computer headphone jack into the input of a keyboard amplifier (it's a 1/8 jack with the Red and White outputs on the other end... excuse my lack of proper terminology)

Shouldn't this work? Should I be getting sound? Do I need to do something different?

If you selected your USB interface as audio source in Max, why are you plugging your speakers into the computer? Use the audio outs on your interface.

This sort of thing needs step by step debugging:
- does the USB audio interface receive a signal? perhaps it has a volume read-out where you can see that
- does Max receive the signal through its adc or ezadc object? check that with a volume meter right after the object. if no signal: is the USB interface selected under Options > Audio status? Is the DSP on?
- if the Max patch is working and producing audio, is there signal on the soundcards outputs? If not, is the correct device connected and selected in Audio status?

Btw, As soon as you start working with external audio interfaces I think it's beneficial to use [adc~] and [dac~] instead of [ezadc~] and [ezdac~] because you have to explicitly enter the in/outputs you wanna use. This prevents automatic channel mappings that don't match what you have in mind, which seems to be the case here.
