Help with jazz walking bass patch...
I am working on a patch that utilizes various max objects
(markov, drunk, l-system, etc.) to generate a jazz walking
bass line given a specified chord progression.
I was wondering if anyone out there had a handy patch or table
that allow me to lookup a chord given a root note and chord
flavor (like min13). It would be great if it could tell me
what modes can be played with that chord.
Thank you in advance.
Is there no one that has tried this before?
Surely someone out there has already done this...
my band's ex-piano player has done his ph.d. in artificial intelligence on this... just to show you the level of complexity of the project you embark on...

Hmmmm pretty brainy stuff. Thanks for the links, I will certianly
investigate things. I don't think it needs to be that
complicated though. A bass line has a relatively small set
of things it can do given a chord progression. I will
report my findings.

This is what my friend use to think, before he started doing it and the ruslt was far from convincing! Even the latest algorythms were yielding poor results...
After all, a good walking bass is a lifetime goal, as most bass player will tell you!
good luck and keep us posted if you find anything convincing.
