hi object not working with HID's

Okay, here's what I need some recommendations with...

I am using max/msp to recognize a USB postal scale (Don't ask why...). It registers as a HID under my pc's Device Manager, but does not show up using the "hi" object menu.

I know with PC's that both keyboards and mice dont show as HID's for max/msp, but a HID scale? that doesn’t make sense. I tried a game controller and it eventually was recognized by max/msp after a time, but with the scale plugged in instead is says that there are 0 devices. If I manually enter into hi object the exact name of the device as seen in the device manager under HID's, it tells me there are no devices by that name... (because it doesn’t think there are any at all).

any ideas anyone? I'm at a loss and really need to hook this scale up to max. Thanks!
