How about a mobile version of Max?

Well, I understand it would be a difficult and painful work. But I guess it's about time, since our cellphones and tablets are all overpowered nowadays. And it would be really convenient and cool to just grab your iPad and start patching some kind of sick art stuff.

I am not saying it should have all the features of Max, but maybe a lightweight version of Max should do the most of the things okay.

And I think it isn't just a daydream. As far as I understand, most part of Max is built on JUCE platform, which also supports iOS and Android. Therefore, there might be a chance of porting the original Max code to mobile platform relatively easier than we think.

At least, an patcher editor app, linked to the Max on the computer would be nice. A touchscreen is perfect for something like Max, don't you think?

And yes, I know there are Windows tablets which could run Max, but that cannot be a perfect solution. I don't want to spend money to buy another gadget that I will only use for patching.

I think Max 8 is not far away, and Max Mobile for iOS/Android will be such a great addition.

I would love Max for iOS too.

why on earth would you want to patch on a phone? my first computer which I used for Max was a Mac se30, with a 9" screen (admittedly only 512x384 pixels, 1-bit)-- it was, while educational and enlightening, a total nightmare to patch on. To patch, you need large amounts of screen real-estate. There is mira to do interface, so ...

For patching? no, but i would really really like to see runtime make its way to mobile...

yes, like the amazing PdParty for puredata on ios.

i for one would love to patch on an ipad. The reactivity of tactile input is really cool. There was a PureData port on Android at some point, as much as it was a work in progress it was really really cool to touch thigns that blip everywhere. I also use SunVox on iOS, in this you can patch a bit, and it's amazing already, but you can't patch as much as Max and i can just imagin the joy of the inner child in me if i could patch with Max on iOS.

Max for linux has been floated
Max for ipad has been floated
Max for web has been floated
Max for anything other than ablelton was EOL'd.

Look... this is their company strategy. Max is a super powerful paradigm that could be applied to a ton of different platforms. And it won't be. It's not a terrible strategy even though it can be *very* frustrating. Sure, sometimes it feels like Avid. Heck, I'm surprised you can still build standalones. But it is what it is. They didn't take PD closed source for nothing. There's trade offs.

I still use max enthusiastically.

there's no reason we should stop vocalizing our deepest wishes, and what we think should be a natural developement for this thing we love, though. After all c74 is a company who does need to know its customers desires. And, who knows, Christmas is soon...

Please vocalize away! The elves have responded to me multiple times and... honestly, it's felt really good and I've thanked them profusely!!! Other suggestions I've mentioned for 16 years with no luck. Doesn't bother me.

Didn't mean to discourage any speech!

In fact I'll go a step further with my request. Release Max as a closed source C++ Library that loads .maxpat files. People could build max into all sorts of products and cycling could really get a foothold in a lot of different spaces. Max4Everything!

A standalone Max app deployed on Android is what I'd like to create.
Seems to be a reasonable request to me.

Wow I didn't expect this thread to be somewhat active after more than two and a half years 😂
I still stand by my wishes, even though it is unlikely to be achieved.

BTW, if you are searching for mobile audio patching environment, Audulus for iOS seems okay although it's exclusively for modular synthesis.

actually that's kinda what Gen is supposed to be i guess, but yeah it lacks things
and Audulus seems nice indeed :O

According to the “many worlds” theory, there are hundreds even thousands of creators using Max on iPad and wirelessly controlling their solar powered interfaces and from their wireless interfaces they are wirelessly connected to their solar powered amps and speakers and they are happy because it is awesome to walk around their installations and control things and there are no cables anywhere which makes them even more happy.

back in this version of this universe sitting at a table clicking a laptop with a mouse turning knobs and cables everywhere trying to tape them down and hide them and darn need more splitters because forgot about those extra amps and speakers not enough outlets in this room.
