Go to hide on lock in the object menu or press ctrl+K (L will show them again).
then when you lock the patch (view menu and untick edit) it'll be gone, i'd go through the tutorials - it'll answer most of these kinda questions.

hmm ..thanks...yeah I meant to add this but I forgot.

How do I make it so there is a switch or button that reveals what I am hiding to the user?

Thanks again.

Beside reading the fine manuals, a good thing is to look at every menu
item of the program you learn... The answer to your question is right in
front of you in the most obvious menu thinkable (object) - it even
unfolds a shortcut for it...
