How to drop folders to "live.drop"
i try to drop a folder to live.drop object, but:
1, if i check the help file of live.drop, then i can do it there and seems everything working... But i can drop folders from explorer, not ableton browser!
2, if i drop a folder from live's browser to my M4L device, nothing happens
3, if i drop a folder from outside live to my M4L device: it handles as it would be a file and says "Media files missing"... looks for a file, what is a folder name :)
is there a way i can drop folder to a live.drop object?
i'm on Win7 x64 if that counts...
yep . ive noticed that dropping folder from abletons browser wont work ,only files . i wish i would
but even you can't drop files from from the work area, only from the browser... is it normal behaviour?
yes u can ,im doing it all the time
no i can't... it's strange... it can be a bug...
max 6.0.7
live 8.3
win7 x64
Folders are not supported, doesn't appear like a bug to me; more something by design.
First the name itself sort of implies its for files only. But if you experiment and try to use the Explorer to drop in folders you'll notice that although it allows you to 'drop' it the object itself can't really handle it; sometimes even getting Live to trigger errors such as "media files missing".
From the Live browser itself this behaviour is even blocked. So I think its by design and thus 'files only'.
if you check the live.drop help patch in Max help then you will see it supports folders! even it can output FOLD as a type of received object! And if you drop a folder to that help patcher from a browser, then it will work properly!
@FineCutBodies: Max6 I assume? But with M4L 6 is still not officially supported afaik and has had many issues. So when it comes to M4L I always keep Max5 in mind.
yeah it's M6... maybe you are right... it's just strange the live.drop help can do something what u cant do in live :D
sure wish this was fixed. is there any other way, besides dropfile that can do this. Dropfile is too stupid to remember things when you re-open the Live set.
So has this been fixed? Is there an object that allows dropping folders from inside live? I can only drop from outside.
Max Power no you can't, this is a restriction inside Ableton Live
[live.drop] works just as [dropfile] and some others, which are all bound to what we previously called the drag and drop manager, i.e. the operatings systems´ drag and drop on the macintosh
which to my knowlegde always only works between applications (which then includes the finder).
(yes, i know, it is different in windows 10, where it can also be used within the same application.)
furthermore, in some applications, things like VST plug-ins in their custom file menu might not even work by the path to the file but create a copy of the preloaded document, which is already in RAM.
but live.dop expects a path...
