How to fix Simple Gain/Fader Problem

Hi.

I've been trying to use max for about a month and the most simple things seem to evade me.
I'm trying to make my fader/gain move in relation to the volume level.
I have two problems and will attach the first as an answer will probably fix the second.
I've made a metronome with a cowbell. YOu can add your own wav if you hit open.
My problem is, if you notice, the fader is down at its lowest level but you can still hear the cowbell. If you turn the fader up, it distorts.
How do I make it so that when the fader is at 0 you hear nothing and when at the top (156 maybe) you hear the cowbell at its loudest without distorting?

You had the sfplay~ going direct into the ezdac as well as into the gain fader and then into the ezdac. That means you always hear it direct from the sfplay~ with no attenuation and when you turn up the gain fader you are getting the signal again.

Edit : I'm two hairs farther...
This should work better. About the volume issue, you sent the sound twice to your ezdac : one from sfplay, and the other through the 'gain~' object. Because your soundfile volume was probably close to 0 db, (1.0 in max language), you played it with a volume of 2.0 when your gain was up.

Thanks guys, I knew it was something simple.....

One more thing,if I open the transport bar and play the built in click, there is a delay between the click and the cowbell... any ideas of how to fix this?
