Is there a way of a patch reporting whether it has opened in Max 7 or Max 8?

If it opens in one or the other I'd like it to bang a specific message. 

Why? With the changes to the vst~ object meaning that I can use vst3 plugins, if the patch is opened in Max 8 I want to send a message "plug_vst3 plugname", but if it is opened in Max 7 to bang the message "plug anotherplugin" because Max 7 doesn't understand the "plug_vst3" message.
