iLok or not?
Hi, I was just about to request iLok authorization for Pluggo, but then read a few disclaimers that made me wonder whether challenge/response is the way to go.
If I have an iLok authorization will it work for any future upgrades of Pluggo? I got the impression from
>We do not have access to make changes to an iLok asset once >the request for authorization has been submitted. We advise >that you consider all these details very carefully before >making your request.
that it might not be the case.
I'd like to be able to secure my licenses on my iLok, but if that will prevent me from any advantages available only to Challenge/Response users I'm not as sure. Any advice?
Colin.
If we were to create a paid upgrade of Pluggo then you would need to get another asset for your iLok, but up to that point and for the foreseeable future your iLok will authorise all versions after Pluggo 3.2.2 on both platforms.
If you have multiple computers, are on the move doing production here and there and need to take your software with you, then an iLok is a good idea. An iLok is also handy because you can recover from reformatting or system meltdowns without having to request another authorisation.
If you only use one system and have it at home and are prone to losing little blue USB keys, then go for CR. Remember, an iLok is like a hardware version of the software it authorises. If you lose it, you'll need to buy another copy of the software which was on it. Insurance is a good idea for iLok owners.
