In search for synthesis models.
I'm looking for some basic (physical) synthesis models.
For instance I'd like to know how you could simulate a hit on wood or on metal. Or to synthesise something like grating on a rusty plate.
I'm not in search for very detailed physical models but just some basic hints.
these things (your examples) _are already very complicated models.
but let me try to give 2 examples of basic structures.
one thing often involved is a feedback loop similar to the
one you are doing with tapin/tapout when making an echo effect,
the other idea would be the excitation of resonance models,
such as sending a noiseburst or a click into [resonators~] or
[comb~]s.
many things for complex models are probably easier to program
on a lower level than max (for multirate abilities for example)
but that doesnt mean it wont be fun to try something.

p.s.: oh and not to forget: AM and FM!
hello,
i don't know much about it, but julius o smith has a page:https://ccrma.stanford.edu/~jos/wg.html
andhttp://www.dsprelated.com/dspbooks/pasp/
and perry cook of stk fame has some references, but i can't find them..
also dan stowell has this (specifically for supercollider) cymbal synthesis tutorial, you could apply the same principles to your work in max:http://www.mcld.co.uk/cymbalsynthesis/
but don't ask me cos i'm a complete newb to max..
cheers,,
For Perry Cook's stuff, get his book:

Just some links about impact sounds synthesis :
An other book, by Stephan Bilbao. There's some free samples and sound examples here :
