Install runtime on Linux & use standalones

Hello,

I work for a radio station and want to create sample player that can run on the linux OS we use. I want to create a simple interface that presenters can immediately understand to simply launch jingles. I'm sure there are programs to do just this but I want to create my own in max.

Is there a runtime version of max that works on linux (ubuntu studio) and can I then run max patches coded on a different platform i.e mac osx?

cheers

oh yeah.. Pd is not an option as the gui I'm imagining would take me too long to code.

Thanks guys. I should've googled my query first but sometimes I just take for granted that users of this of forum are active and very good to reply.

I wonder are David Z and Co. near completing a port to linux? how would a Max for Linux version work? obviously it's not going to be be open source/free???

Do standalones work without runtime?I'm off to check..
