installing Max 8 and Max 9 at the same time

Hey,

Is it easy and straightforward to install max 9 and keep the existing max 8 installation ?

I've done that in the past, not tested yet with those new versions, maybe the answer is 'yes, just rename your older max 8 to "max 8.app" ' or something ! but maybe things have changed, maybe there are better practices to do that kind of stuff, so here i am to benefit from the experience of other users who would have crossed the gap already.

Thanks in advance

a couple issues as I am also the first time crossing threshold

1. installing max 9 creates a new documents folder with all existing Max 8 documents

but when creating 'new' document in 9 - they are not automatically added to 8 - visa versa

is it true then one should be careful about managing patches that are saved in /Documents between 8 and 9?

  1. seems to be some slight hiccups typing/loading patches from /documents in 9 that were originally created in 8

example : opening a patcher with RNBO external inside a bpatcher doesn't recognize external

    -re-exprorted RBNO to 9 (RNBOGenerated)

    (most) externals began working

feels like an AI deep learning experience!

hey Will, i had previously a "Max" folder in Documents/ which was created by max 7 (iirc) and was used exclusively by max 7, Max 8 did create the "Documents/Max 8" folder. And indeed, 8 only uses external files from "Documents/Max 8" whereas 7 used only "Documents/Max". You can circumvent this by manually adding paths in Options->File preferences ; but in my experience it was more manageable to have separate stuff for the old and the new.

(also thanks @Robert Ramirez ^-^)

Hello,

Very interesting insights.

My solution is creating a folder "max9" located at the application folder and move the "max 9" application there.

Since now I noticed no quirks ;-)
