interface for maxmsp question
Hi. I'm looking for a new interface. I'm considering getting the m-audio profire 610. Would this work OK with max? Do most interfaces work with it? I've only owned one in the past so I haven't tried much. Thanks for any help!
I can't speak for the 610, but I've got the 410 and it works fine.
I think most interfaces will work fine in Max.
But...
I have been a owner of a M-Audio Firewire 410 for 5 years and I have now switched to a MOTU Traveler Mk3. MOTU interfaces are more expensive, (though the Ultralite is quite cheap for its features) but they worth the difference for their stability (I'm a mac user) and their EQs and other specs.
For example, on a complex show, my M-Audio was not recognized by my computer, an hour before the show, even though it was during the day. And after several reboots, it got back to life. You don't want this kind of things to happen. I've heard that M-Audio interfaces are more stable on PC than on mac though...
Some also say that the M-Audio preamps aren't really good.
For me, the bottom line is that if you're on a Mac, go with Motu. If you're on a PC, M-Audio will do the job, but if you can afford it, go with RME.
Good luck.
