Intro / Max_logic question

Hi all,

I'm Tobias, a second years student in music and mediatic arts in Berne,
Switzerland.

I have a question regarding the transmission of MIDI data from Max to Logic
7. I have a patch with several noteout objects, with which I want to record
data into several tracks in logic. One AU istrument (one track) per note out
object.

Somehow I don't manage to set channels and ports right, as every noteout
object sends data to every instrument.

Any help on how to so that would be most welcome!

Thanks,

Tobias

Tobias,
I have a help file on how to do this on my web site.

go to the "logic help files" link and take a look at the ones called "MIDI_MaxToLogic" and "ManyMIDIMaxToLogic" files.

There is a help file and a pre-made max patch and logic file to help you figure things out.

Hope this is helpful,
Mitch

Thanks Mitch,

That logic session seems tow ork as far as getting the data to the right
instruments. However, when I want to record it, again all the data is
recorded on every track. Does the same happen on your computer, or is it at
all possible to do what I have in mind, or can I only separate the data
after recording it, using the transform function?

Thanks again for you help,

Tobias

Tobias,
The MIDI data you are recording is already separate by MIDI channel though it does not appear to be. Try this:

1) record MIDI from Max on one of your Instrument Tracks. To do this only engage record on a single track. This will record all incoming MIDI data onto the selected single track.

(All MIDI data is recorded onto the selected Arrange Track. This is the case because in the Environment-Click&Ports layer, the Max MIDI data stream is sent to the object called "to Recording & Thru". Note that there is an object called "Send MIDI to 2 places". This object sends the MIDI notes from Max to each Instrument Object and to "to Rec & Thru")

2) click the new MIDI Region and click (in the local menu)
Region> Split/Demix> Demix By Event Channel

This should make the single region divide up into multiple regions and they should also be placed on the correct Arrange track.

Hope this helps out,
Mitch

tobias,
There is also a setting that I just read about on the Apple Logic Fourum. I have not tried, it but here it is as well.

Go to File > Song Settings > Recording...
and check the box 'Auto demix by channel if multitrack recording'.

(see Logic 7 reference manual page 122).

Hope this helps,
Mitch
