iPad as a controller
Can we use the iPad as a controller with Max6?
Sure: with this for example http://hexler.net/software/touchosc
i am nearly sure, that was obvious, did you mean something different, hans?
I use Fantastick by pinktwins http://pinktwins.com/fantastick/
and I learned everything I know about it from this patch -
http://www.mathieuchamagne.comhttps://cycling74.com/tools/mmf-fantastick/ it is a great way to familiarize yourself with the features of the connectivity. This patch will help get you started processing the data in MMF-Fantastick
If you are interested in connecting multiple devices, then you need http://pinktwins.com/fantastick/FSMultiServer.zip this object. It does not work in tandem with MMF-Fantastick, but then again you may not need to connect more than one device.
Yes! Yes! Yes! That's what I've been looking for! I've been trying to hunt down fantastick for aaaaages
Thanks for the link.
After some hours of tweeking with it, all works as expected but seems to be a bit buggy and not really rock-solid to say the least. I gave up with Max6, it was awful, much better with Max5.
I'm really sad as it's the sort of app that I was looking for since I have an iPad. And it opens a door to so much things…
Am I the only one who have problems with Fantastick ?
I gave up on Fantastick a while ago because it didn't play nicely with an existing Wifi network, but apparently it works much better if you set up an ad-hoc network. I never tried for myself.
I use TouchOSC as its rock solid with an existing wifi network, but it would be nice to use some of the display features of Fantastick, maybe I'll try it out again sometime.
I've had good results with the C74 app. http://nr74.org/nr74_software/c74.html
Cheers!
+1 for C74. Easy and reliable.
I had very little luck with Fantastick and TouchOSC was a little too complicated for what I needed to do.
@Luke : my trials were made with ad-hoc network. With standart wi-fi, it doesn't even work at all.
+1 for touchOSC. I'm going to try C74.
I've tried all of the apps mentioned so far and TouchOSC is still by far the easiest to work with.
C'mon Jazzmutant! Where's your iOS Lemur app?!
@dick
I second your demand for a Lemur app!!!
here is the reply from Lemur, good new!!
Hello Hans,
Thanks for the feedback. An iPad version of the Lemur is actually in progress and wil be released very soon through a company called Liine (http://liine.net/en/) since JazzMutant has now closed down.
Best regards,
Hugues
@Hans: Nice! Check this teaser out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Grpn0WiqtRU

£34.99 on the UK store says I'll probably be waiting for a sale.
very cool!!!
Does it go along with Max6?
I can't see why it wouldn't, Hans!
Hi,
TouchOSC is the way forward for iOS, most importantly it allows control over WLANS, which can be useful when showcasing patches. We recently designed a 5 channel pan control and interface for a sound design tool, using OSC with a Lemur (previously mentioned). The new Lemur looks good, however JazzMutant (the company that makes the Dexter Lemur) nearly went under after the introduction of the iPad. The new version now supports OSC and MIDI over WiFi and an improved multi-touch interface. For DJ and VJ'ing, the Lemur would be the most recommended, as they have more experience in designing tools for networked audio.
