So max can certainly import an .amxd file and display it but is it possible to run the patch i.e. have live api functions and objects work in presentation within max? Wondering If I can gain access to a launchpad using the api functions or does it mean outside of live I would have to address the launchpad with midi?

Just found the amxd~ device, the plugin section and description in documentation explaining:

[q]Functions that require Live Object Model functionality not present in Max (like parameter mapping) is not currently supported.[/q]

So i guess it means controller development for live still has to take place in maxforlive.

Yea it's kind of a bummer, as I was hoping to e.g. map lfo.amxd parameters onto other .amxd devices within Max, which would be powerful. I hope this feature is added in future versions. (perhaps there is a workaround)

well it makes sense that this isn't available. It's the Live API, not the Max API. Doubt it will ever be added. You need to query the Live application to get access to the parameters, ids etc.

Accessing the Launchpad via the 'Control_Surfaces' section of the API is interacting with the Python control script, so you won't be able to do any of that cool stuff outside of Live.

Yeah I've been looking at trying to get the LFO mapping feature to work for a while now but no dice so far. Any workaround even without going near the Live API would be great.... Any ideas?

this somehow makes sense, dont you think?

it is just like the other way round: in live you cant make use of things like dac~ or choose another audio IO driver for the runtime.
