Is it possible with M4L to overdub in a playing midi clip ?
Hello
With M4L it's possible to trigger "session record".
->it will record clips on all armed tracks if the slot is empty
and if a slot is not empty, the alredy playing clip that it containes will be overdubbed.
OK
I am looking for a way to do the same but not for all armed tracks but just the ones I choose.
It's easy with the "fire" function but it will record in empty clips and
with already playing clips the function will just play the clips and not overdub them
The question is :
with M4L how to overdub in a playing clip without using the 'session record" function as I want to exclude some armed tracks from the process...
Any idea ?
thank you !

It's difficult to imagine why you would have tracks armed-for-recording that you don't actually want to record to, but Live and Max are enormous playgrounds and I've only seen small corners of the land.
Your (M4L device) code would need to note which armed tracks you don't want to overdub, disarm them, record your overdubs on the armed tracks you want, and then rearm the noted disarmed tracks when overdubbing is complete. Not really any other way around.
When you hover over the session record "ring" in Live, the info in the lower left corner is very clear. That ring is how you activate overdub recording in "midi clips" anywhere in the Session, but only on armed tracks in playing clips. There's no way to specify only on SOME armed tracks (only some playing clips), armed is armed.
I routinely have midi tracks armed for recording that I don't necessarily want to record to because I use the automatic inlet control that only opens the midi inlet if the track is armed together with the "all ports" input setting so any of my "midi keyboards" can play to any "armed track" with the least friction. I oftem "jam" along with pre-recorded midi clips by switching to the always open "midi inlet", disarming the track (if session ring is on), and jamming along. But when I actually want to record something, overdubs or not, I never have any tracks armed for recording that I don't want to record to. Am I missing something?
Because i am recording other tracks in arrangement mode while I record and loop some others tracks in session view I just want to overdub in session without unarming tracks in arrangement
