Jack Audio and MIDI

I just installed Jack Audio and got it working with Live and Max. I read in the Jack manual that it supports MIDI now along with audio... but the manual was little vague. Is anyone successfully routing MIDI through Jack (on a Mac), or is it better to just use the IAC MIDi (bus?)(driver?)(bus driver?) instead?

BTW, is the IAC MIDI referred to as a bus or a driver?

On Mac I would prefer using IAC since it's integrated with OS X. Works perfectly for me.
IAC is driver that supports multiple busses (defined by the user in utility Audio MIDI Setup).

Sorry about the minimal manual content for MIDI (I'm the Jack manual man). The advantage that Jack MIDI has over IAC is that it's sample accurate. Also, for applications that have Jack MIDI built in, it's nice to have MIDI within OS X Jack too. That said, for most every day tasks, I agree with broc - IAC is just fine.

Dan: Great job on the Jack manual. It made setting up Jack really easy. I was surprised though not to easily find the user manual on the documentation page on the website. The first thing I came across on the site was the API documentation which makes Jack sound really complicated for someone new to it.

Reading posts on the forum here before I downloaded Jack, I got the vibe that many think Jack is complicated to set up. It isn't at all, actually the opposite, but the way the documentation is setup on the website makes it seem like it is complicated. Maybe if the basic manual was featured prominently on the doc page of the website, first time visitors would be able to quickly see that Jack is really easy to install and use.

Hi rtech - this is getting a bit off topic for this Cycling74 forum, but are you referring to the http://jackosx.com site, or the http://jackaudio.org site? I'm presuming the latter. The former is the one I control, and right there in the "About" section is the "basics" that I think you're after...

Yup, the site I was talking about was the .org one. Your site is a lot more clear.
