Jazz Mutant Lemur...

I was wondering whether anyone who is using a Lemur would mind sharing their experience?

How well does it interface with Max/MSP? How does it compare to a traditional hardware controller, or a Wacom tablet?

I'm thinking about buying one but I have some reservations, particularly the lack of pressure sensitivity and limited objects. Do these compromise the functionality?

The algorithmic stuff seems to be its main strength, and the bright screen for live work also.

Finally, are there any alternative (similar) options?

Thanks...

I think the biggest disadvantage is the relative small screen.

The Lemur works really well with Max/MSP via OSC. Of course you have to design your patches specific to the Lemur, if you want to take full advantage of it.
It would be great if you could use your max interface on the touch screen. Specially I kind of miss to be able to view and edit loops and envelopes like in max/MSP's waveform display and breakpoint function editor. When setting envelopes with fader it reminds me of programming the no-so-intuitive DX-7.

Another thing is that it would be great to be able to load in an entire patch and do DSP from the Lemur. Now you have to bring both your computer and the Lemur to concerts. And everytime you setup you have to load the interface from the JazzEditor to the Lemur and connect the Lemur to the max patch.

In spite of all this the Lemur is in fact a great tool to work with.
It's easy and the screen feels good. The fact that you can set an envelope on how the balls shows up and disappear on the screen after you touch it, makes it feel as if the Lemur actually is touch sentitive.
The Lemur's multiballs, bouncing effect and the spring emulation is also a great think to work with.

You probably find yourselves working with a setup of both the mouse on the computerscreen and the Lemur.

Thanks for sharing your experience Morten... I think I will buy one and hope that in time new objects are added to fill the current gaps. Breakpoint editor would be great...
