jit.dx.grab issue

Hi,

I'm having some issues with jit.dx.grab. I'm running max 4.6 + Jitter 1.6 on Windows XP. Java, QT and CF are both installed and running.

The devices i am using to grab my video are USB devices which i am using for over a year now whithout having any trouble up til now. I just recently had the problem on a fresh install that gives me the following errors when i try to open a device:
-could not render capture stream
-could not build preview graph

the same device works perfectly with amcap. also in max, i can see that max(jitter) attempts to open the capture stream by a LED on the device which starts burning (indicating that it's capturing), but after a second the LED goes out and i get the errors.

has anyone a clue about what could be wrong here ?

Thanks a lot for any advice!

cheers
david

I found this page while searching for an answer because I have the same problem.

I tried:

different drivers
different versions of winvdig
uninstalling and installing max msp and the drivers in different orders...

And the most frustrating part is that it used to work and just stopped...

I also tried different webcams of the same kind. The camera DOES work with Amcap or any other application like MSN.

When I use jit.qt.grab instead of jit.dx.grab I get something but it isn't much...a green distorted screen....jit.dx.grab returns the errors

-could not render capture stream
-could not build preview graph

Hi all,

It's also the same case here. The same message pops up in Max window and a significant delay on opening (send "open" to jit.dx.grab).

I'm using Max 4.6.3 with Jitter 1.6, on Windows XP and using a IEEE1394 video capture box (from ImagingSource).

It used to work in my friend's computer but not in mine.

Thanks.

I'd recommend using AMCAP to change the mode the device is in. It may be that the "default" mode is something odd that Jitter doesn't like. Those settings will save with the device panel, so it does make a difference. It could even be something like whether it is a YUV instead of RGB based codec that is used for handling.

hi,

I have a similar case in Max 5_jitter 1.7.
jit.qt.grab issue!!!

I'm using Max 5 with Jitter 1.7, on Leopard and using a IEEE1394 SD-Connect from DV Source(camera).
It works in Max 4.6 with jitter 1.6 and Tiger OS 10.4.10. I tested the exact same solution in Window XP and Tiger OS with Max 5.
There is no problem using to work but not in Jitter 1.7 and Leopard OS.

Thanks.
