jit.qt.grab & jit.grab bug: settings message not recognized
When I send the settings message to jit.qt.grab or jit.grab using the help file, Max reports "doesn't understand settings." This used to bring up a window where a user could select from different cameras.
Does anyone else have this issue? I am running Max 6.1.6 on OS X 10.9.2. Perhaps it is a problem with Mavericks.
by default max uses the new QTKit drivers for jit.(qt).grab on 10.9 machines, as the builtin isight cameras no longer work with the old quicktime drivers.
the qtkit driver does not support the "settings" message.
if you want to try your camera with the old quicktime drivers, here's what you can try:
1. restart Max
2. new patcher
3. new message box with “; jit usealtgrab 0″
4. lock patcher and click message box
make sure you do this *before* you add any jitter objects to your patch.
if you find that your camera works with the old drivers, you can make this the default by typing “; jit usealtgrab 0″ in a file named “jitter-config.txt”, located anywhere in the search path and it will be executed when Jitter loads.
it would be helpful for the community to know if this works for you, and what camera you are using.
otherwise, are your different cameras not listed when you click "getvdevlist" in the jit.grab help file?
it would be helpful for us to know what you are unable to do with the new drivers, that you could do with the old drivers from the settings window.
Thanks for your reply, Rob. I followed your instructions and sent Max the message “; jit usealtgrab 0" but jit.qt.grab still reports "doesn't understand settings" when I try this with the vdevice set to the built-in camera (I am using a Macbook Pro from 2011).
However, the settings message now works when I set the vdevice to a USB camera. That did not work before sending the "; jit usealtgrab 0" message.
I do see my other cameras listed in the getvdevlist help file. I wonder what is going on with the built-in camera that keeps it from working with the settings message.
Regardless, this tip was very useful. I appreciate it!
just for clarification -- does this mean that those of us suffering through 10.9 can bag the inputlist business entirely, and just get our camera selections from the vdevlist message?

Dear sir, I have a problem I am hoping I can get fixed with you in regards to the rokvid patch. I am a professor at a university in Missouri and I have a copy of ableton live for multi-user type of system. I can not download or purchase your rokvid to use with max4live as it states that this is only for a single user system. As far as I know, I will be the only person to utilize this patch as I am also working on a masters program at the university in hopes of using the patch for my thesis project. Would you have any ideas or recommendations for me to be able to use this patch regardless of having a multi-user license? Greatly appreciate your help and I look forward to using your patch if possible!!
Sincerely,
