Jitter "Kernel Task" CPU Load - when using projector / screen

Hi all,
I have a constant, reappearing problem with jitter and CPU usage.

I have several video projects (unfortunately too big to pst here online) which run pretty well on my computer (Macbook pro, 2.66 Ghz Intel Core i7, 4GB Ram, 10.6.8 OSX).
But often (not always) when I connect a projector to the laptop and run the video the mac process "kernel task" starts to take a lot of the CPU - like 150% or the likes. It drops to a few percent when I stop the video.

This might as well be a OSX bug, or a jitter bug.
Is anybody else experiencing this?

Thanks and all the best
Frank

anything new on this?

The schizophrenic behavior is still appearing in Max 6.1.7 & OS 10.9.3 doing heavy OpenGL video processing ...
As soon as you connect a 2cnd monitor and the kernel_task keeps rising up the 300% cpu, slowing all the Max processes down, the fps goes from 35 to 3 and the audio starts crackling ...

There seems to be a certain antidote, killing the model identifier file to be found in
//System -Library – Extensions – IOPlatformPluginFamily.kext -Contents – Plugins – ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin.kext – Contents – Resources //
But I hesitate to touch that until it is the last thing to do ...

I find it hard to believe that Frank and me are the only people suffering from this waste of processing power ...

Ghee, I do not even now what this kernel_task thing is doing ..

edit:

I see now that the 'kernel_task going wild'-symptom is not limited to Max/MSP, instead it happens under other circumstances too. So it might be not the best place to ask around here ...
Sorry for the noise.
