Lemur
I am a beginner I would be worth buying or a Lemur?
Absolutely hate to do so Kuri Kuri mouse.
Hello! I don't think that a lemur is the best way to go for a beginner.. it is a lot of money to invest in a controller! I don't own but i have access to one at my college, and to be honest i am not very impressed by it... it depends ofcourse on how you use it. I mean, i used it as a controller in max, and it sure was very very nice having a controller like that but i would not spent that much on one!!
An iPad seems way cheaper, but not available yet...
the lemur is great for the scripting engine and inherent scaling done on board. I like offloading gui objects in your programs to the lemurs processors instead of having all those number boxes and faders etc in max chewing up resources. The ipad does bring some good stuff to the table but a don't think a full version of MAX is one of them so its in the same functionality as the lemur. Lemur is pressure and not capacitive and allows unlimited cursors. Im not sure that the ipad tracks more than 4 or 8 points at most. If your really into it and want to save money, you can make a multi point with 100$ and a webcam but it cant get dropped out of the overhead on a plane to japan like the lemur can. I love mine and Ive done lighting sound and video for huge shows around the world on it. Its so flexible and fast to set up. You will be able to do as much on the ipad if you want to spend time building your own app but the jazzeditor is wicked easy and fast to set up interfaces in and I frequently add little things I realize I need while in rehearsal etc. and that isn't that easy when compiling an iphone app as of yet.
my 2 cents

But couldn't you make an executable and write a simple iPad app with dev tools. Its a bit more learning to do but... It seems like it would be perfect.
Lemur is a large investment indeed, especially if you're a beginner. Why not work with cheaper controllers to get your feet off the ground with Max programming. Once you feel you've outgrown, perhaps you'll have a better idea on whether Lemur would be worth the money for yourself.
With that being said, I would have to say it is one of the coolest gadgets out there!
