Limit MIDI Polyphony ?

Hello list,

In order to protect an electro acoustic device, I would like to create a MaxForLive device which limits the polyphony on my MIDI track to 10 notes for example. I would like to have two different modes : one is blocking the polyphony when the maximum number of voices is reached, the other mode, like on a poly analog synth, stops a voice (if the maximum polyphony is reached) before playing a new voice.

I’m a bit lost with the approach I should use - someone could help me ?
