Michele Verità's icon

Hi all, i made this little cellular sequencer (inspired by reaktor new-school)..requires jitter since it uses jit.conway..let me know if it inspire you in any way
ciao

Sweet! Nice work Michele.

Hi,

I would love to have a look at this. I am new to Max so please forgive me my ignorance but how do I load this in?

Cheers

Andy

If you are on XP, you need to add the extension .pat

Hi,

Thanks for the reply but I am on OSX.

Ctrl-click on the file and select 'open with'> 'other' - make sure that 'all
Applications' is enabled at the top of the dialogue box, and select Max 5,

hi Michele,

looks nice

but I need some help to understand the concept and applications I could do of it.

Could you please give us some clues ?

I have a Lemur, so this could be a great interface for this.

Thanks a lot

:-)

HI Roger,

Thanks for that got it in now.

When I save it saves with a MaxPat extension, how where these files saved like this?

Cheers

Andy

Anthony Palomba's icon

Max5 saves it with the .maxpat extension, Max4 saves it with
the .pat extension.

Hi Anthony,

But the files have no extensions at all!

Hi Dan,

Thanks for the reply but this is already enabled.

After downloading and automatic unzipping in Leopard I have:

MacPro:~ andrewcapon$ cd cellular_matrix_sequencer/
MacPro:cellular_matrix_sequencer andrewcapon$ ls -ltr
total 24
-rw-r--r--@ 1 andrewcapon andrewcapon 1065 23 May 17:47 m.cellulardecode
-rw-r--r--@ 1 andrewcapon andrewcapon 5159 23 May 18:41 cellular_matrix

Cheers

I had the same problem. Adding .mxb to the end of each file
identifies them as Max 4 binary format.

This is a very nice patch, Mic. I like how you kept the starting
pattern static on the left for reference.

Hooking it up as a trigger for percussive samples is fun!

hey guys thanks a lot! :-)
yes it is intended to trigger percussive patterns and can be really fun!
ciao

ps. i made this with in 4.5.7 i did not try in 5

Hi Olivier,
well the concept behind it is to use a cellular automata algorithm to create an evolving pattern that can produce some interesting and unpredictable rythmic patterns (if you see the bang that flashes, you can use them to play percussive sounds, you can use them to bang a table filled with midi values etc..)
the trick behind it is in map-decoding the cellular animated pattern

A very nice patch Michele, could be very useful.

For people who don't know too much about "The Game Of Life" the following link is pretty good http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conway's_Game_of_Life and for Cellular Automation http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cellular_automaton

Don't you love wikipedia?

I will have a go at getting it to work with the Lemur.

Thanks, I am investigating CA for composition now, so it's a nice thing to see

Thanks Michele and Andy,

I spent a part of the night on wikipedia and Max with your patch.

Looks like a new playground for me and my Lemur for the next months ;-)

Thanks a lot to bringing this to us.

It works great in 5. I generally only go into 4.x for projects I'm
working on that have to stay there for now, so 5 was the first
environment I tried.
