M as a midi driver for Finale/Sibelius/Garageband

Help! I'm trying to use M as a midi driver for Finale, Sibelius, or Garageband, as these are the softsynths that I own. First, I boot up M, open the MIDI Assignment window and assign "from M1" to the Port/Device columns under Output Channels. Then, I move to Finale 2011, I open a default document and go to the MIDI Setup window and assign "from M1" to the input of channels 1-16. I then close this window-sometimes I get a pop-up window saying that "Finale is expecting and did not find "from M1" in MIDI devices in the general Audio/MIDI setup, sometimes I don't. When I go to the general Audio/Midi setup there is no device called "M1," and none gets detected when I "scan for new device." Even with "from M1" selected then no sound is activated when I go back to M and input into M's pattern windows.
With Sibelius, the same thing happens, "from M1" is an option to choose from when creating a new instrument list, but then no sounds are activated when I input information into M's patterns.
With Garageband, I'll boot up M while Garageband is running and Garageband will give me a pop-up window saying that 2 new inputs have been detected. Then when I create a track with a software instrument like Piano, I can go back to M and this piano sound will activate when I input notes into M's pattern window. BUT I can only get one sound for all four patterns, there's no way to re-assign MIDI channels per track in Garageband so I'm limited to one sound in M no matter how I futze with the MIDI window's configuration, which makes pattern differentiation difficult.
Please forgive my technical ignorance, has anyone out there used M with any of these programs and can you help, or does anyone have any advice at all? I love M, I just can't get to a place where I can utilize the various instrument libraries on my computer with it. Thanks for any help in advance-
David
