M-Audio ProFire 2626 vs. Presonus FireStudio
Okay everyone, I'm looking for the most stripped-down, clean-sounding
winner here. They're both the same price (the local store has a 10%
off sale, $630 each), and have basically the same features, except
that the M-Audio has "better DSP preamps" according to the guy at the
store. However, I've had so much M-Audio stuff break, and I'm not
really into live rock band recording or anything, as this is mostly
for live processing classical electro-acoustic music. Is either one
of these particularly bulky? I've heard great things about the
PreSonus FireBox, so I'm inclined to go with their company, but I
don't know anyone who has used the more expensive M-Audio interfaces
and could vouch for their reliability. Thoughts?

I have a Presonus and its sound is great but also its CPU load. Well in my PowerBook G4 867 MHz / 640 MB SDRAM. So my decision was to change my computer. I am wayting for a new powerful Mac.
I don't know about M-Audio ProFire, but I would buy again a Presonus if I had to.

Thanks, I just picked it up today after searching the archives for a
while. I've got a pretty new MacBook Pro, so not to worried about the
CPU load. I've had bad experiences with M-Audio keeping up with OSX
updates, as in they tend to just drop old items from the driver line.
Also their cheaper stuff breaks all the time for me.

Be very wary of anything made by maudio. I have a delta 66 card that causes inexplicable crashes when using max5 (osx). I had to remove the card to stop the crashing.
