MacOS X Sierra...
Just checking to see if any of the more adventurous among us have installed Sierra yet. Reports? Does it break anything in Max? Any recommendations from anyone at Cycling about whether it's safe to upgrade?
I've been using the GM for a week or so on my main machine. It's working fine.
One thing, the Sierra install process uninstalled Java. Contrary to most people's expectations legacy Java works fine in 10.12
You can get the installer here
We will be updating Max to work with Java 8 x64 on Mac in the near future. 32 bit Mac Java fans will need to stay with the legacy Java.
If things come up with Sierra please let us know about them so we can get them addressed for the update.
Cheers
the most terrible MacOS ever.
"We will be updating Max to work with Java 8 x64 on Mac in the near future."
Thanks for the news Andrew, will probably upgrade to Max 7 when this occurs.
btw Will the new version of Max/Java8 be able to work on OS 10.8 ?
Even after installing the java mentioned by Andrew, I'm still crashing. Hopefully they get this fixed soon! :(
@floating point - yes
@Davin Huston - please send details and a crash log to support. Java itself is not currently causing crashes, but something else might be
@andrew pask support and I have been looking for the issue for the last two days at this point! Gotta hand it to you all, you don't give up!
It appears that my user profile was corrupt, after deleting the macOS account profile, I was up and running!
I'm just running rather complex patch (third-party externals, network communication via jweb, scripting, jitter, map, gen & gen~) and everything seems to be ok. Im running the patch on MacMini (2014, 8GB RAM) and my old MBP (2011, 16GB RAM).
And then it wasn't, but I have determined the problem: iCloud sync. It was syncing my 'Documents' folder which also had Max 7 stuff in it, after deleting the iCloud saved version and restarting Max, it fired right up. So definitely not a Java issue.
I had the brilliant idea of installing Sierra.
I have some projects where i use the "bass" and "bassline" instruments. Instead of an instrument, the instrument interface appears grey and inside it tells me "install java bla bla" or something similar. I have yet not found a way to solve this.
(When) Are you going to update Max for Live so it`s compatible with Sierra?
Kind Regards,
Sim
sierra comes with absoutely no intresting new features except various shit which try to convince you to store your privat data on cloud sites instead of locally and allows the finder to immediately delete files unrecoverably without a warning.
sierra is therefoe the landmark of the end of personal computer operating systems because with sierra it is no longer your computer and your data.
"with sierra it is no longer your computer and your data"
i'm sure it's true. fortunately however the world has ended several times before and we're still here - hanging by a thread :)
hello, since I've upgraded to Sierra the scope~ object doesn't work anymore.. any hints?
Just discovered that under the latest version of Sierra 10.12.3 Synapse no longer works, but does work under earlier versions. Not a Max problem per se, but that was the only way I could get skeleton data into Max.
Yet another nudge towards going PC ;)
I have a lot flickering with the max4live devices in Ableton since I updated to Sierra....
Does anyone have the same problem? (Latest max and ableton version)
I am still seeing the "You need to install the really vulnerable legacy java 6 to use that max4live plugin you just bought." popup. Will the near future be here anytime soon? :-)
Max7 itself seems to run okay, just the max4live plugins fail. Specifically the MidiVolve plugin that has been all the rage on the youtubes these days.
Max:
"version" : "Version 7.3.4 (de5a74a) (32-bit mac)"
"platform" : "mac"
"arch" : "x86",
"osversion" : "Mac OS X Version 10.12.5 x86_64",
Ableton: 9.7.3 Build 2017-06-20
java -version:
java version "1.8.0_131"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_131-b11)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.131-b11, mixed mode)
Same here, Java is working when my MFL plugin is in edit mode, i.e. opened in Max:

but when not editing, i.e loaded in Live, the same plugin shows the "Java is not installed" warning:

From the support information:
"MXJ Java Version" : "1.8.0_144",
"MXJ Java Specification Version" : "1.8",
"MXJ OS Name" : "Mac OS X",
"MXJ OS Version" : "10.12.6",
"MXJ OS Architecture" : "x86_64",
Any pointers would be very welcome
Raphael : same flickering problem here.
On my new (albeit 2nd hand) mbp mid 2014 running Sierra, the sounds I record with my Zoom H6 won't load into buffers into Max 7 or M4L devices like Samsara. They play normally in Live 9.7.6 and 10.0.2. I checked them on my older mbp running 10.8.5 and it works fine in this OS. To be fair, the situation is exactly the same with Henke's Granulator. Any idea about that ? Tested some other devices with buffers and they don't work either. This is really a bad news. Am I alone in this case ?
