Make Controller Kit by Making Things
What is your thoughts on the Make Controller Kit by Making Things ?
I'm thinking of bying this kit...
I'll need the ability to control servo's, led lights, and receive sensor info. Is the best interface for my needs ?
I'd like high speed and resolution for my sensors, and for that, i guess the Teabox is a better choice. This interface is a bit above my pricerange and lacks the ability to control servo's etc.
Please let my know you thoughts.
Thnak you
The make kit uses a form of micro controller called a pic chip
this is the brain of the kit.
Pic`s are eazy to build and hard to program.
You might want to find out how to solder the board yourself
and be done for 25/35 bucks.
really all it needs is a form of clocking done with
a "resistor capacitator oscillator" or a more expensive
and more accurate "quartz oscillator".
And serial data inputs from your computer to some pins.
if this is too comlicated for you? there are boards called "basic stamps" this is a tiny board with another micro controller and ready to be programmed instantly.
i suppose they go up to 22khz or so, and really..
this is a proper sensor resolution.
the only limitations of the basic stamp are, the
supported resolutions are less, the pic`s going to 88khz
these days.
not much programming space in the basic stamp.
and basic stamps don`t accept c++. yust basic.
but the online resource on pic`s is huge, and if you diy it
it`s cheaper and probbably superior in speed.
cheers:)
i wasnt quite shure what data comes out of the board,
is it midi or other?
I've got one, and it is excellent. Especially for motors, it has a bunch of nice features.
It can talk to your patch with OSC over ethernet, so it is quite high speed and resolution. Support is good. (I should mention that I am friends with some of the people in the company, but I think my comments are objective.)
True, there are plenty of paths that are more/less expensive. Arduino is sweet, although not so high speed. Dan Overholt's CUI board is also good. On the more expensive end, Teabox is good. Look at Gluion also. A nice comparison chart is here:
I've chosen the Make Controller Kit for myself, as a nice balance between cost and performance, and I do similar things to what you're asking for.
